Course information

Welcome to the Vitamin D Deficiency in Children Course. This module is divided into 3 sessions, each expected to take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Learning objectives: 

  • Explain the biology & metabolism of vitamin D
  • Understand the pathophysiology & recognise the clinical features of vitamin D deficiency
  • Identify children at risk of vitamin D deficiency
  • Choose appropriate investigations and know when they are indicated
  • Describe the management of vitamin D deficiency and be aware of current guidelines for its prevention
  • To revise the standards and guidelines relating to bacterial meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia
  • To appreciate the wider impacts of the disease on children, young people and their families
  • To enforce the health professional’s understanding of advice for parents and carers in relation to signs and symptoms of the disease
